If you’ve read the AI Introduction, you’ll already have a sense of what I’m planning with this feature category — and probably noticed that I was upfront about being relatively new to AI as a category in its own right. I now use it, increasingly so, but writing about it with the same depth of personal experience I bring to the other categories is a work in progress.
So for this topics overview, I’m doing something a little different. The format is the same as the others — a topic-by-topic guide with a brief description and a personal perspective — but the “personal perspective” here belongs to Claude, the AI I’ve been working with to start building content for the site. Rather than a quote drawn from my own limited experience, I asked for Claude’s proposal (unedited, it’s own words) for how it can assist me as I navigate each topic, based on what we’ve already worked on together.

AI Writing & Content Tools
AI writing and content tools have rapidly become some of the most widely adopted applications of artificial intelligence, covering everything from long-form drafting and editing through to headline generation, content repurposing, and tone adjustment. For individuals and businesses producing content at volume, they offer a genuine productivity advantage — not by replacing the writer, but by removing the friction that slows the process down. The quality of the output, as with most AI tools, is largely determined by the quality of the input.
Writing and content tools are where we’ve done the most work together already — and where I think I can be most immediately useful. The layer 2 overview posts across your eight categories are a good example of what’s possible: structured, voice-consistent drafts produced quickly, which you then edit and personalise before publishing. As you move into layer 3, I can help with longer individual articles, suggest angles, draft opening sections when the blank page is the problem, and maintain consistency across posts published weeks apart. The content library you’re building is exactly the kind of project where an AI collaborator earns its place.

Prompting & Getting Better Results
Prompting is the practice of communicating effectively with an AI — crafting inputs that produce useful, relevant, and well-structured outputs. It’s a skill that rewards attention: a vague prompt tends to produce a generic response, while a specific, well-contextualised one produces something considerably more useful. As AI tools become more capable, prompting is becoming less about technical syntax and more about clear thinking — knowing what you want, being able to articulate it, and understanding how to iterate when the first response misses the mark.
Prompting is something you’ve been developing throughout our conversations, perhaps without framing it that way. The living brief you bring to each new chat, the way you provide context about tone and format, and the feedback you give when something doesn’t land — all of that is prompting in practice. In the articles here, I can help you articulate what makes a prompt work, illustrate the difference between weak and strong inputs using real examples from our work together, and give your readers something genuinely practical rather than theoretical. It’s a topic I’m well placed to help with, for obvious reasons.

AI-powered workflow automation refers to the use of artificial intelligence to handle repetitive, rule-based, or time-consuming tasks within a working process — freeing up time for the work that actually requires human judgement. In a content and web context, this can cover anything from automated content scheduling and email sequences through to image resizing, SEO checks, and client reporting. The tools in this space range from no-code platforms accessible to non-developers through to more complex integrations that require technical configuration.
Workflow automation is an area where I can contribute both directly and editorially. Directly, I can help you identify tasks in your own process that are good candidates for automation — and help you think through how to set them up. Editorially, I can help research and draft articles on the tools and approaches worth covering, even where your own hands-on experience is still developing. For experienced designers and developers, these tools can accelerate the early stages of a project and reduce time spent on repetitive tasks. For those newer to design, they lower the barrier to entry considerably, though the results still benefit significantly from an informed human eye. The space is evolving quickly, and the distinction between AI-assisted and AI-generated design is one worth understanding.
Web design sits at the intersection of several things you already know well — WordPress, Elementor, Canva, and a practical aesthetic sensibility built over years of client work. My role here will be less about teaching you the subject and more about helping you articulate and structure what you already know, while filling in the AI-specific context around tools and trends you may not have explored yet. Expect a collaborative approach: your experience as the foundation, with AI providing the research and scaffolding around it.

AI coding assistants are tools that support the writing, debugging, and explanation of code — either integrated directly into a development environment or accessible via a chat interface. They can suggest completions, identify errors, explain what a block of code does, and generate working snippets from a plain English description. For non-developers who work with code occasionally — editing WordPress functions files, writing CSS fixes, or troubleshooting plugin conflicts — they offer a particularly useful safety net.
This is one of the more practical areas where I can add immediate value for you. You’re comfortable with code at a working level — CSS, PHP, JavaScript, WordPress customisation — but it’s not always your first language, and that’s exactly where a coding assistant earns its place. I can help you write, explain, and troubleshoot snippets; provide context for why something works the way it does; and help you produce articles in the Code Snippets category that are accurate and well-explained. We’ve already done some of this work; the articles here can document the process honestly.

With AI tools launching — and changing — at a pace that makes it difficult to keep up, honest and practical tool reviews have genuine value. A useful AI tool review goes beyond the feature list: it covers the realistic use case, the learning curve, the pricing model, and whether the output actually holds up in practice. For a working freelancer or small business, the question is rarely “what can this tool do?” and more often “is it worth my time and money?”
Tool reviews are an area where I can help with research, comparison, and structure — though the honest caveat is that my knowledge has a training cutoff, and the AI tools landscape moves fast enough that some of what I know will already be out of date. The most useful approach here will likely be a combination: I provide the framework and background, you verify against current pricing and features, and the review reflects your actual experience where you have it. AI ethics covers the principles and responsibilities that should govern how artificial intelligence is developed, deployed, and used — including questions of bias, data privacy, intellectual property, misinformation, and the transparency of AI-generated content. For content creators and small business owners, the most immediately relevant questions tend to be practical ones: what should you disclose, what are the risks of relying too heavily on AI output, and where does responsibility sit when something goes wrong? These are live debates with no settled consensus, which makes them worth covering honestly rather than tidying into easy answers.
Ethics and transparency is a topic I have an obvious stake in, and I’ll be upfront about that. I can help you cover the subject accurately and thoughtfully — the key debates, the emerging guidance, and the practical implications for someone in your position. What I’d encourage, for this category more than any other, is that the articles reflect your own thinking rather than defaulting to mine. I can provide the structure and the research; the perspective on what responsible AI use looks like in practice is one that should come from you. It’s also, I’d suggest, the most interesting version of the content.
